One day after the tragic fire disaster at a club in Istanbul, in which 29 people died, the investigation into the cause continues. According to the provincial government, the fire may have occurred in connection with construction work. The conversion was allegedly carried out without permission.
The restaurant is located in the basement of a high-rise building in the Besiktas district of Istanbul. A fire broke out in the nightclub building on Tuesday afternoon.
Nine people arrested
According to state news agency Anadolu, nine people have been arrested so far, including the club operator and those responsible for the renovation.
Bodies handed over to relatives
Most of the bodies have already been handed over to the families. Why they could not save themselves from the fire is the subject of research.
Local guests probably suffocated
Hurriyet newspaper quoted the building’s manager as saying the fire was likely caused by the explosion of an oxygen cylinder near the exit. The people inside were probably suffocated. Residents of the building have been complaining about the club in the basement for some time.
