Hans Wenzl is currently the most successful high-altitude mountaineer in Austria and is something of a good luck charm in the Eight Thousand Mountains, because when Hans is on the mountain, success at the summit is almost certain. The “Bergkrone” accompanied the 53-year-old during training for his eleventh eight-thousander.
Hans Wenzl is an absolute exception among all high-altitude mountaineers worldwide. Not only does he climb the highest mountains in the world without a team, without Sherpas and without artificial oxygen, so far Hans has always managed to climb all eight-thousanders on the first attempt. “The mountaineers at the base camps are always happy when I am there because they say the summit will almost certainly be reached.”
