A prisoner with a dozen previous convictions is said to have done business with two now ex-prison guards: this appears from an indictment by the Linz Public Prosecutor’s Office. Apparently money flowed for cell phones and alcohol.
A year and a half ago the “Krone” reported on the case, now the Linz Public Prosecutor’s Office is filing charges against two prison guards (55, 35) who have already been fired and a heavily indebted prisoner (35) who has already been fired. Convicted 18 times: It concerns corruption in the port, more specifically mobile phone and alcohol packages in exchange for money. According to the indictment, the two officers allegedly conducted multiple transactions with a co-suspected Bosnian prisoner between December 2021 and August 2022.
In detail, it mainly concerns the smuggling of mobile phones and alcohol into prison: According to the prosecutor, the 55-year-old obtained five mobile phones and two whiskey bottles and collected 2,000 euros for them. The other ex-cop is said to have even met an acquaintance of the criminal, made transfers and smuggled three vodka bottles into his cell – for more than 3,000 euros. They used code words for the packages. The 55-year-old is also said to have illegally requested judicial information from other prisoners.
The case was discovered as a result of a dispute between prisoners
The case was discovered by another inmate who had gotten into an argument with the accused criminal. The ex-justice employees – just like the prisoner as the intended perpetrator – are accused of abuse of office and bribery. The two ex-officials are represented by Salzburg lawyer Kurt Jelinek. A trial date has not yet been announced.
