When Savannah Graziano (15) was kidnapped by her father in California in 2022, her rescue seemed all but complete: police had already surrounded the kidnapper’s car. But when the girl ran to the officers on the director’s instructions, they shot her dead. It was only 1.5 years later that the video recordings of the incident were published – they do not shed a good light on the way the police officers work.
The tragedy began when Anthony Graziano, 45, murdered his wife. He then kidnapped his 15-year-old daughter and went on a wild chase with the police. He shot repeatedly at the executive who was hunting him.
The vehicle was stopped on a highway in the city of Hesperia, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) from Los Angeles. Savannah was eventually asked to approach the officers, but instead of being rescued, she was fatally shot by police gunfire.

Police alleged that the girl may have shot
After the incident, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office claimed the girl quickly ran toward officers and was wearing “tactical gear,” the Los Angeles Times reported. The officers also discovered that the girl had also shot during the chase.
Officer shouted “Stop!” after girls were shot.
But the audio and sound recordings, which have now been published 1.5 years later, paint a different picture. The girl is seen following the instructions of a police officer who shouted: “Come to me! Come, come, come!’ As she walked towards him, she was struck by another police officer’s bullet. A police officer can be heard shouting: “Stop! Stop shooting, he’s in the car.” Then more shots were fired – Savannah lay lifeless on the side of the road. Her father and kidnapper were also shot dead by officers shortly afterwards.

Comparatively requires better training
The reversal in this case caused a wave of outrage in the US. The sheriff’s office declined to comment. The girl’s uncle is stunned, although he understands that the operation was a chaotic situation, he told American media. “There needs to be better training so that unarmed people don’t get killed,” demanded CJ Wyatt, the brother of Savannah’s murdered mother.
The video shows that at least one of the officers tried to save the girl. “He obviously knew it was Savannah. “So what’s the difference between him and the others?” said Wyatt, referring to the police officers who fired.
