Gruesome scenes in Oberwart: A young woman managed to escape from an apartment in broad daylight and a witness called the police. The victim was allegedly held down and brutally beaten. A man threatened her with a gun to force her to have sex. The suspect is in custody.
The shocking incident, which caused a stir in the Roma settlement in Oberwart, took place around lunchtime last Saturday. While there was a stream of visitors and a lot of activity in the area celebrating Burgenland’s new clinic, a neighbor was startled by the screams of a desperate woman.
“Help help!”
“I was cooking when I heard loud cries for help in English. The young woman was walking around on the street, crying bitterly and shaking,” the witness reported in an interview with the “Krone”.
The shock was deep
The 18-year-old said in an anxious voice that she had been held in an apartment. A man beat her and threatened her with a Kalashnikov because he wanted to have sex with her, the Kosovan woman said.
In the middle of the shocking descriptions, the suspect left the house with a companion. The two suspects quickly fled. The witness alerted the police.
Weapon, ammunition discovered
The two men, also from Kosovo, were quickly tracked down. At the same time a search was underway. “There were many police officers on duty. They even searched the roof,” said a resident. A Kalashnikov was not found, but a small caliber rifle was found hidden under rubbish in the garden. The police also seized a large amount of ammunition.
“Three high on cocaine“
According to the 18-year-old, the owner and the two Kosovan citizens had consumed cocaine the night before in the apartment where she was being held. The Burgenlander (28) soon disappeared, the woman explained. Later she was afraid of death.
Suspect arrested
Due to the risk of absconding, the 45-year-old suspect is currently in Eisenstadt prison. The situation in the Roma settlement is tense. “For months, strangers have been regularly showing up here and not spreading a good atmosphere,” say several residents. Concerned residents want to contact the mayor first Monday morning for help.
