With a stolen car, the chase in Vienna ends with four people injured

Date:

On Monday afternoon there was a wild police chase in Vienna-Ottakring. A Viennese man (31) drove a stolen car through several intersections, injuring a total of four people.

A parking attendant alerted the police around 4:40 p.m. after noticing the stolen license plate in Ottakringer Straße. When officers arrived, two suspects got into the car and drove away.

Pedestrians in danger
The driver drove through several intersections and one-way streets at significantly excessive speed, ignored red lights and raced through several crosswalks. Several pedestrians had to jump out of the way to save themselves from the speeding offender in time. Shortly afterwards, the unidentified passenger jumped out of the car and fled.

Two-car collision
The driver continued driving, ignored the red light at the Lerchenfelder Belt/Friedmanngasse intersection and almost crashed into a building. When he lost control of the car, the Viennese collided with two vehicles. The two drivers suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

But as if that wasn’t enough, the suspect also rammed two patrol cars. A female officer was also slightly injured.

Attempt to escape on foot prevented
Eventually, the police officers managed to push the speeder away and stop him. A new attempt to escape on foot was prevented in time. During the arrest, the 31-year-old fought back so hard that another officer was injured in the hand and knee. Further investigations are underway.
