Man (52) executed by lethal injection in the US for double murder

A 52-year-old man was executed by lethal injection in the US state of Missouri on Tuesday evening. The man was sentenced to death in 2006 for the murder of his cousin and her husband. Legal attempts by his lawyers to prevent the execution were unsuccessful.

The 52-year-old was killed by lethal injection in Bonne Terre prison on Tuesday, as US media reported, citing the responsible authority.

The prisoner showed remorse before the execution
The media also reported that the man had shown remorse and many prison officials had even advocated a life sentence.

Five people have already been executed in 2024
Five people have been executed in the United States this year, up from 25 last year, according to the Death Penalty Information Center. More than 2,300 death row inmates are currently on death row, some for decades.

New killing method with nitrogen
In January, a death row inmate was killed for the first time using a new nitrogen method. During the procedure, a person is supplied with nitrogen through a face mask – the result is death from lack of oxygen. Human rights experts had sounded the alarm. So far, 23 of the 50 states have abolished the death penalty.
