A 16-year-old boy from Leibnitz, suspected of being responsible for property damage in an underground parking garage, injured two police officers. Will he remain at large?
On Wednesday evening, police officers were called to the underground parking garage of a residential building by concerned residents after youths repeatedly damaged property: fire extinguishers were damaged or emptied. There were teenagers in the garage again, raising fears of new crimes.
Escaped from the police
When a patrol from the Leibnitz police station arrived on the scene, a 16-year-old immediately fled. Police chased him and arrested him shortly afterwards. “The youth also tried to defend himself against the officers by hitting them, which ultimately resulted in him having to be handcuffed,” police said. Both police officers were slightly injured and were treated as outpatients in hospital.
In addition to the suspicion of resistance to state authority, a connection with other crimes is also being investigated. The Public Prosecution Service then decides whether the boy should be taken to prison or released.
