Police in Upper Austria have handled three missing persons cases in recent days, but so far only one has had a successful outcome. A 59-year-old absconding man was quickly found in Gmunden, but in Linz and Steyr two men, independently of each other, disappeared from the face of the earth.
On Wednesday around 10:10 p.m., police in Gmunden received a report that a 59-year-old, wearing only a nightgown, had been missing from a care facility in Gmunden since 8 p.m. Police helicopters with thermal imaging cameras, police drones and police dogs were called in. Then a large-scale search began. Ultimately, the kidnapper was found alive, but hypothermic, by the fire brigade on Krottenseestrasse around 2:20 am. After receiving initial care, he was taken to the Vöcklabruck clinic.
Completely different in nature
However, the case of Reinhold G. (44) is very different. The Linz employee was last seen at the Eurospar branch in Kleinmünchen on Monday evening around 7 p.m. He has since disappeared without a trace. His sister Kathrin started a search on Facebook: “His mobile phone and his expired passport are in his apartment, and he has his wallet with him. It doesn’t suit my brother to just disappear. We are very concerned.”
Help Wanted
A family in Steyr is also concerned and asks for help on Facebook: “Since April 6, 2024 around 8 p.m. there has been no trace of our father! He lives in 4400 Steyr/Münichholz. He is 55 years old, about 175 cm tall and usually wears sunglasses, white sneakers, jeans and a hoodie. The cell phone is turned off and he is never found in the apartment. Normally he rarely spends time outside of Steyr.
