The German-Austrian actor and presenter Frank Hoffmann passed away on Saturday at the age of 83. In Austria, the member of the Burgtheater ensemble, who was born in Radebeul near Dresden, is best known for his moderation of the ORF film program “Trailer”.
Hoffmann also reached a large audience as a radio host in the Ö3 program “Round Midnight” and in several audio books. The deceased was active as a director of Güssing’s cultural summer until the end and should have been in a play this year.
Hoffmann was born on July 16, 1938 near Dresden and later completed his acting training at the famous Otto Falckenberg School in Munich. After stints in several German-language theaters, the young Hoffmann became a member of the Burgtheater ensemble in 1967. The moderation of the cinema show “Trailer” on ORF, which Hoffmann held with his trademark soft voice from 1975 to 1994, made him the face recognized on the streets in Austria. But Hoffmann was also very active after “Trailer” and was not only on stage, but also took on directing duties and was involved in a good cause.
