A 43-year-old man had seriously assaulted his ex. His ignorance during the trial at the Feldkirch Regional Court was shocking.
Strain cervical spine, traumatic brain injury, shoulder strain, bruised nose, strangulation marks on the neck and a hematoma on the eye – the 43-year-old suspect is said to have inflicted this litany of injuries on his partner during an argument. “That’s not right. I loved this woman more than anything. I would have given my last shirt for her,” says the convicted man, shocked by the allegations.
On that carnival night he met his cousin in town and hugged her. His girlfriend freaked out and called him a “cheater”. The humiliation continued at home. “I just wanted to sleep. But she kept hitting me on the back. I fended her off with my hand and probably hit her in the face,” the suspect explains about the victim’s nosebleed. You were also drunk. They had three bottles of wine and eight large beers. The victim’s statements are shocking.
Victim: death threat
The 34-year-old victim’s version is completely different. The German tearfully reports on living with the 43-year-old, his alcohol problem and the unpredictability of her ex-boyfriend. That was also the case that night in the shared bedroom: “I said, ‘If this continues with the alcohol and the bullying, I’m going to have to pull the cord.’ He then pushed me onto the bed, covered my mouth and nose and shouted, ‘I’ll kill you, you stupid pig!’”
She bit his hand in panic. “He then let me go and I kicked him away,” says the anguished woman. Fearing her boyfriend would have further outbursts of anger, she told doctors at the hospital a lie and initially attributed the injuries to a fall from a horse.
The court accepts the victim’s statements and sentences the violent perpetrator to a suspended prison sentence of six months and a fine of 1,200 euros. The council awarded the victim, who still suffers from panic attacks and sleep disorders, partial compensation of 750 euros. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
