Biography and warning book about Herbert Kickl will be published next week

Date:

Next week the book ‘Kickl and the Destruction of Europe’ will be published, written by the two ‘profile’ journalists Gernot Bauer and Robert Treichler. The work is intended as a biography, but also as a party chronology and as a warning.

It starts with the childhood of the FPÖ politician, who was born on October 19, 1968 in Villach. Kickl grew up as a working-class boy in a Nazi-affected family. The grandfather was a member of the NSDAP. School days and a fascination with the military also found their way into “Kickl and the Destruction of Europe”.

There is talk of a “talented incompetent” who has neither a military career nor a degree. According to the book, the fact that Kickl eventually ended up in the FPÖ can be traced back to a chance meeting. The then deputy director of the Freedom Academy is said to have written his contact details on a beer mat.

Speechwriter at Haider
The politician, who is described as ‘somewhat socially tense’, later went to work for Jörg Haider, including as a speechwriter. A long party career, for example as general secretary, followed. ‘Kickl and the Destruction of Europe’ is also about the rise to the position of party leader, which is said to have been accompanied by ‘wild, internal party intrigues’, and about views on topics such as Corona, migration and Europe that are well documented in the media.

The FPÖ leader was not available for talks. The book is published by Paul Zsolnay Verlag and will be available next week.
