The 52-year-old athlete fell on his mountain bike in a slight left bend in Ebensee on Saturday – and then fell about 25 meters down a slope. Witnesses to the accident immediately alerted emergency services and mountain rescuers went to the seriously injured person.
The 52-year-old from the Wels-Land district was on his mountain bike on Saturday around 3 p.m. during a tour in Ebensee am Traunsee. The accident happened on the Karl Heissl Trail.
The athlete fell down a slope about 80 feet away and was left seriously injured in the dry streambed below, according to police.
Difficult rescue
Fortunately, there were witnesses to the accident who immediately called 911. While the rescue helicopter prepared a rescue operation using rope, mountain rescuers climbed to the 52-year-old and provided first aid. The rescue operation was complicated by the impassable terrain. Finally, the athlete was taken to the Salzkammergut clinic in Gmunden.
