Spectacular accident Monday evening in Tyrol’s Zillertal: a 64-year-old local woman lost control of her minibus, left the road and fell into the raging Ziller River. The driver apparently had many guardian angels on board and got off relatively lightly.
The accident happened around 7 p.m. in the municipality of Aschau. The 64-year-old local woman was driving out of the valley in the minibus on the B169 Zillertal Road when, for an unknown reason, she suddenly lost control of the vehicle.
Vehicle was not broken down
The vehicle then went over the edge of the road, crashed into a traffic sign, drove across the adjacent pasture and eventually ended up in the Ziller. A blessing in disguise: the minivan stayed on its wheels in the raging river and did not go adrift. “The driver was able to free himself from the vehicle,” a police spokesperson told “Krone”.
Rescued to hospital
The 64-year-old was slightly injured. She received initial care on site and was then taken to the Schwaz district hospital. The vehicle was rescued from the river by the volunteer fire brigade. During the operation, traffic in the vicinity of the accident site was alternately stopped.
