Police action at home – nurse called emergency number due to lack of staff

Date:

Not only is there an acute shortage of nursing staff in Austria, the problem is also all too well known in Germany. An extraordinary emergency measure had to be taken in a retirement home in Berlin.

Late Monday evening, a nurse, looking for a specialist who could take over the next shift, alerted the police, fire brigade and civil protection. The woman had not been able to reach anyone from her team to whom she could transfer the care of the approximately 170 patients.

A police spokeswoman said that in addition to the nurse, there were only two assistants in the retirement home, but that they were not authorized to administer medication. Home management couldn’t reach the nurse, so she didn’t know what else to do.

The home management could provide the care itself
Only when the emergency services arrived on the scene did the housing management show up and was able to provide care “on their own” so that the police and fire brigade could leave again.
