As the saying goes: “When an accident happens, things are always stupid,” and something unexpected also led to an accident with injuries during a federal army exercise in the Völkermarkt district.
Army soldiers had been training for an emergency in a former shelter in the Völkermarkt district. Four soldiers simultaneously entered a staircase leading from the outside to the first floor. But the old stairs could not support the load and the landing broke. Two soldiers fell three meters to the ground.
A 57-year-old professional soldier was seriously injured and a recruit (19) was slightly injured. Another professional soldier (32) was able to hold on to the railing and prevent the fall. The fourth soldier, a recruit, was able to enter the building in time.
The injured were taken by rescue to the Klagenfurt accident hospital.
