Two serious industrial accidents occurred on Monday in Wattens in the Tyrolean district of Innsbruck-Land and in the ski area of Hchötz in the Ötztal. A man (54) was hit by a metal beam on the premises of a company. The other employee (59) had to deal with a closed runway.
The first accident happened shortly after 11 a.m. The 54-year-old and a colleague (23) were carrying out unloading work on a company site in Wattens with a side loader. “The forklift was loaded with twelve meters of metal beams,” police said.
During unloading, one of the 750-kilogram carriers tipped forward and trapped the 54-year-old, who was standing next to the forklift, in the lower leg. The worker was taken to Hall Hospital with serious injuries.
Slipped on a closed slope
The second industrial accident occurred around 1:40 p.m. In the Hochötz ski area, a 59-year-old was walking towards the valley on the closed blue slope number 11. “He slipped, was wearing good shoes and junk, and slid 50 meters further.” The man suffered serious injuries to the thorax. He was flown to Zams Hospital by emergency medical helicopter.
