Former Tengelmann boss Karl-Erivan Haub has been officially dead for almost three years. The German billionaire disappeared without a trace during a ski trip in the Swiss Alps. But the circumstances are still considered mysterious. Now a team of journalists has filed a report against the brother of the former director – for an allegedly false statement about Haub’s death.
According to news channel ntv, this has led to a new investigation into Haub. “There are strong indications that he deliberately caused his disappearance,” investigative journalist Liv von Boetticher explained to NTV. This is the ‘last resort’ to investigate the background of the disappearance. Von Boetticher and her colleagues have put together what they believe to be a convincing collection.
Photos and phone calls to a suspected Russian lover are intended to prove that Haub has fled to Russia. The photos reportedly come from a security company that investigated rumors on behalf of the missing man’s brother. During the course of the investigation, the security service is said to have searched the Moscow surveillance system for Haub’s biometric data.
Escape to Russia or third-party debt?
RTL journalist von Boetticher is convinced that the former manager broke away because of his business dealings with “dubious players in the Russian economy”. But it could also be that Haub is actually dead, but not from an accident. Von Boetticher and her team hope that the investigation now launched by the Cologne public prosecutor’s office will finally provide answers to the questions that have been bothering them for years.
