The two stork parents laid six eggs, which nested on an ÖBB transmission tower near the train station of Perger (Upper Austria). Four of them had hatched on Wednesday afternoon – the first baby storks in Austria this year, according to the Federal Railways.
As reported, the proud parents already had offspring in Perg last year. This year the bipeds will probably be particularly early: four chicks had already hatched on Wednesday – according to ÖBB, the first baby storks in all of Austria. The pair had previously laid six eggs.
On to the south
In total, about a dozen pairs of storks breed in Upper Austria every year. Most of them move south in the fall to overwinter in warmer areas.
However, this is not the case with the Perg storks: although their young left for the south as usual last year, the two parents stayed with us and even spent the winter in the snow-covered nest in Upper Austria.
