It started with a disturbance of the peace and ended with a large-scale police operation on Lendplatz in Graz: young people had a party in an empty house and played with real weapons.
Wild scenes took place Monday night during a boisterous party on Lendplatz in Graz in an abandoned building. A neighbor who thought it was too loud not only alerted the police because of the deafening noise. He had also noticed that several partygoers were fiddling with long guns during the party.
When the officers arrived at Lendplatz around 10:45 PM, several young people were already trying to leave the party and flee in different directions. However, most of the approximately 40 night owls were quickly stopped and checked, police spokesman Heimo Kohlbacher confirms.
Weapons in unlocked case
“When we get such an advertisement, we immediately look at what is happening on the ground to avert any danger.” No shots were fired, but the building contained three long guns and associated ammunition that had not been properly preserved.
“The weapons that had to be registered were in an unlocked box that was freely accessible to everyone,” Kohlbacher explains. Further investigations into the owner are now underway. It is still unclear why and by whom the weapons were stored there.
