Tell me, what are your thoughts on support services for local families? A study by the European Commission answers this question. This makes Austria European champion.
Whether it concerns the Family Bonus Plus, child benefit, childcare or school starting allowance or tax reduction – the Austrian state also invests a lot in the future of our little ones in the fight against the risk of poverty. This is now proven by a new 37-page study from the European Commission. The data comes from the years 2019 to 2022, before our family and social benefits were valorized, i.e. adjusted to inflation (since the beginning of 2023). If we take the example of a family, this means that the support is at least 2,200 euros more per year.
According to the bare figures, we are European champions with 12 percent of the so-called transfer payments, measured in terms of domestic gross domestic product per capita (the equivalent of over 5,000 euros). Poland follows Latvia and Hungary. The major countries such as Germany and France are also still in the top 10, Italy is in the last third. At the bottom of the list are Spain, Greece and at the bottom Ireland.
Family Minister Susanne Raab is pleased with the research from the EU research center: “No country in the European Union supports families as much as Austria. We can rightly be proud of that. We deserve to be first!”
The downside: Since we are still at the top in terms of inflation compared to other European countries, support for families is obviously desperately needed. . .
