Disaster in Lower Austria – a well-known pediatrician crashes with a plane in the field

Date:

Two people – the pilot (74) and a 14-year-old – were seriously injured in a plane crash in Hundsheim in the district of Bruck ad Leitha (Lower Austria) on Sunday afternoon. It is probably a prominent and internationally award-winning pediatrician from Tulln and his daughter. His single-engine machine had an accident at the start.

The site of the accident shortly before 2 p.m. was Spitzerberg Airport. Police spokesman Stefan Loidl said the pilot, one of the best-known pediatricians in Lower Austria, suffered serious injuries. The 74-year-old was flown to the University Hospital St. Pölten by “Christophorus 9”. “Christophorus 3” transported the girl to the state hospital in Wiener Neustadt. She is said to be the doctor’s daughter and suffered serious head injuries.

Pre-Concern
The plane, a PA-18, is said to have drilled steeply into a field after takeoff. In aviation circles, the doctor who owned the machine is considered a mediocre pilot. The man’s acquaintances report to the “Krone” that there have always been concerns about the doctor’s manner of flying. For example, procedures would often not have been followed by the older pilot.

Investigation into the cause of the accident is underway
According to ÖAMTC spokesman Heimo Gülcher, the two emergency helicopters were deployed alongside many other rescue workers. According to Loidl, Austro Control has been informed and will support investigations to clarify the cause of the accident.
