Where is this woman? That’s what police officers in Steyr wondered after a fire broke out in the kitchen of an apartment in an apartment building in Steyr. The neighbors fled and an adult and four children were taken to hospital. Only later did it become clear why the tenant had disappeared.
Due to heavy smoke in an apartment building, emergency services were sent to the Steyr Grünmarkt on Saturday around 5 p.m. When the police arrived, all residents were already in front of the house.
One of the residents, a 35-year-old Afghan, said a neighbor he did not know by name came to him and told him her stove was on fire. The man tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful.
Four children were also taken to hospital
Meanwhile, everyone in the house had gone outside and the unknown neighbor had fled. Five people, including four children (4, 11, 11 and 13 years old), were admitted to the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen clinic in Steyr with suspected smoke poisoning. The fire brigade reported a fire around 6 p.m.
Neighbor was a “submarine”
During further investigation, the police managed to track down the initially unknown neighbor. It involved a 28-year-old woman from Linz who lived there unregistered.
