In Italy, a 13-month-old boy was attacked by two pit bulls. During the attack in Campolongo near Salerno, the toddler was so seriously injured that he died.
The dogs belonged to a friend of the baby’s mother, who was also injured. She was taken to hospital with deep bite wounds, but her life was not in danger, Italian media report.
Fatal dog attacks are not uncommon
Fatal dog bite attacks occur again and again in Italy. Most recently, a jogger was attacked and killed by three Rottweilers while out running near Rome in February. The 39-year-old man was bitten to death by dogs in a park in the small Italian town of Manziana.
A similar case occurred in October 2023 in Upper Austria: a 60-year-old jogger was attacked by American Staffordshire Terriers and died. The dog owner was sentenced to 15 months’ partial imprisonment for murder by gross negligence.
