After a brutal murder took place in an apartment in Vienna-Ottakring at the end of February, the identity of the victim has now been clarified. The body was that of a 27-year-old man of Serbian nationality who had been active in the drug world.
Police spokeswoman Barbara Gass confirmed this on Monday. The murder may have had something to do with drug trafficking; a marijuana plantation was also operated in the apartment or in the basement belonging to it.
Victims abused and dismembered
The circumstances of the crime and the fact that the victim was abused suggest that it could be a mafia murder. The man’s fingers were cut off, making fingerprint identification impossible. Law enforcement authorities relied on a DNA report.
Numerous stab wounds
The deceased also had numerous stab wounds to his upper body. At the start of the investigation it was said: “Due to the circumstances, there is a suspicion that organized crime may be involved.”
