More snow has fallen in some states in recent days. On Tuesday night, the cold front finally reached the entire country. There are white greetings from Mrs. Holle, especially in the south. In Styria, thousands of households are without electricity due to the weather. Asfinag also calls on people to only travel in winter-proof vehicles in the higher areas.
No summer temperatures are expected in the coming days. Fresh snow is expected almost everywhere on Tuesday due to a low in Italy – especially in the south of Austria. Only Burgenland will probably be spared. But it should rain everywhere.
Thousands of households without electricity
While the Italian low point is already causing traffic chaos in Carinthia in the morning hours, many households in southwestern Styria are without power due to the snowfall. In the morning, approximately 100 transformer stations and 3,400 households were affected, Energie Steiermark announced.

ASFINAG switches to winter service
But up to 30 centimeters of snow can also fall in the Pack area on the A2 (southern motorway) until Tuesday evening, and snow can also be expected in Upper Styria and in the transition area. That is why ASFINAG has switched back to the classic winter service in the affected regions and is deploying additional staff. On the packaging route alone, the maintenance department of the Unterwald motorway on the A2 has equipped five vehicles with snow plows.
Winter driving conditions may also occur in the west, especially on the higher routes. This applies in particular to the Arlberg Pass, the current regional alternative route for traffic between Tyrol and Vorarlberg due to the closure of the Arlberg Tunnel.
Adjust the pace to the circumstances
Asfinag is urgently appealing to people to travel only with winter equipment, even though the winter tire requirement has no longer applied since April 15, to adapt their speed to the conditions and to increase the distance to the vehicle in front.
It will only get warmer after the weekend
The weather will look about the same in the coming days. Snowfall is still expected and temperatures will not rise until the weekend. From Friday there will be a glimmer of hope: At the start of the weekend, temperatures will rise again and can rise to 16 degrees.
