On Tuesday, an Afghan man drove his small truck along the Fernpass route in particularly dangerous conditions. With Breitenwang this ultimately ended fatally.
Around 10.50 am the man drove the small truck along the Fernpasweg towards Germany. In the municipality of Breitenwang, for reasons that are still unclear, he encountered oncoming traffic and crashed into the side of an oncoming car driven by a 74-year-old resident.
Chain reaction after first collision
As a result, the driver also ended up in the oncoming traffic and collided head-on with an oncoming car, driven by a 29-year-old Italian.
The 74-year-old driver and his 71-year-old wife (passenger) were seriously injured. The woman was taken to Reutte Hospital by the rescue team.
The driver of the accident was further investigated
During the investigation into the accident, it was suspected that the driver of the small truck was not fit to drive. The subsequent medical examination determined that he was unfit to drive due to the use of addictive substances and medications and fatigue. The driver’s driver’s license was subsequently temporarily confiscated.
