Three burglars looted a lot of jewelry and cash in Lower Austria, Carinthia and Styria. The Romanian citizens are said to be responsible for nine attempted and eighteen completed burglaries, police said in a press release on Tuesday. They are said to have caused approximately 150,000 euros in damage through the 27 crimes they committed.

On December 8, 2023, the men committed an evening burglary in a residential building in Leopoldsdorf im Marchfeld in the Gänserndorf district (Lower Austria) and fled. The victim alerted the police, who were able to arrest the two men (30, 38) in a field. A suspected accomplice, the 29-year-old driver of the getaway car, was arrested that same evening.

Three states in sight
During the investigation, the trio was able to commit burglaries in single-family homes in Lower Austria in the districts of Melk, Neunkirchen, Bruck an der Leitha, St. Pölten-Land, Tulln, Mistelbach, Mödling, Gänserndorf, Baden and both Korneuburg and St. Margarethen in Styria. Knittelfeld in the Murtal district can be assigned. The men also hit a restaurant in Friesach in the Sankt Veit an der Glan district of Carinthia.

The trio of burglars had been on the road since September last year. The police were able to confiscate some of the loot and hand it over to the victims. The three suspects made a partial confession and were transferred to St. Pölten prison.
