Blocked for hours – truck with car parts overturned on the A2

Date:

Serious truck accident Wednesday evening on the A2, the southern motorway, in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district on the border between Styria and Burgenland: a Romanian had an accident with his semi-trailer and knocked over a concrete barrier. As a result, the highway was closed for hours. In the meantime, one lane each southbound and northbound has been opened.

Shortly after midnight, the 49-year-old from Romania was driving a semi-trailer on the southern highway (A2) towards Vienna. Shortly before the Lafnitztal-Oberwart exit, the driver collided for an unknown reason with the lowered concrete center barrier at the construction site.

Southern highway is completely closed for a short time
The car then ended up on the left side and blocked the entire lane. The injured Romanian, who did respond, was taken to the Hartberg LKH by the emergency services.

According to Asfinag, a mobile crane is required for the extensive clean-up work and recovery of the truck. As soon as this happens, the A2 must be closed again in both directions.

The partial closure is expected to last until Thursday
It is not yet known how long the work will take. The concrete barrier, parts of which fell like dominoes over a distance of nine kilometers, must also first be repaired. However, the highway manager estimates that all lanes will be open again on Thursday.
