28 schoolgirls paid a ‘state visit’ to Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen on Girls’ Day.
“Girls can become and achieve anything” – this was the motto under which Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen invited 28 girls from two Viennese and one Upper Austrian schools for a “state visit” to the Hofburg on “Girls’ Day”. During the reenacted process, the girls enthusiastically took on all roles and jobs, just like during an official appointment.
Strict “Cobra Girls” in large dark sunglasses rushed down the red carpet, warning onlookers who had gotten a little too close to the presidential limousine: “Stand back, a little more distance please!”
Other students practiced being a committed young journalist with a writing pad, microphone and camera. They took photos, captured the venerable atmosphere of the Hofburg with excellent video clips and did not forget to portray the “First Dog”, namely the lively mixed-breed dog Juli.
To give their curious ‘state guests’ a real insight into the working world of the head of state, Van der Bellen and First Lady Doris Schmidauer even invited the group of girls behind the wallpapered door into the office of the Federal President. There, students surrounded the presidential couple for the big state visit photo.
And what was the best part? “To be taken seriously by the president as a young person,” was the honest, unanimous answer.
