The LAB union has pointed out that the decision by automotive multinational Stellantis “is not justified,” and has also accused the Basque government of “lacking an industrial policy that prevents business relocations and addresses the challenges of the eco-social transition.”
The consultation period of the Registration of employment regulations for the termination of 144 contracts at the factory mechanicin Urduliz (Bizkaia), was concluded without an agreement, as reported by the LAB associationwhich has accused the Basque government of “lacking an industrial policy that prevents movements”.
The trade union center reiterated this in a statement the LORD is not justifiedin such a way that “the staff and the region have been denied a future and an alternative.”
“During the consultation period it became clear that there are no causes that justify the EUA. That is why we at LAB have demanded that Stellantis withdraw this and agree on an alternative with a future for the staff and the region. Given the refusal of the multinational and the passivity of the Basque government This ERE process ended without an agreement,” he explained.
LAB, that says Do not accept ‘neither the causes nor the consequences of the closure of Mecaner’, he considers necessary’roll back labor reformsbecause if labor laws don’t change, working people will be left without tools and guarantees and will be sold to corporate greed.”
“After analyzing the closure file with the legal and economic office, we came to the conclusion that Initiating a legal process would be a dead endas it would not improve the situation of workers and would not guarantee the future of Mecaner,” he added, emphasizing that he has proposed “viable productive alternatives, both with Stellantis, and opening the possibility to other models of management and business participation”.
However, he regretted that the multinational decided “to move house the production to reduce costs thanks to legislation that lays out the red carpet and showers the multinational with public money.
In the same way he has accused the Basque government have not taken any responsibilityas “it has not moved a single finger to prevent closure, despite having the authority to do so.”
“LAB is clear that this does not end here. A future for Mecaner and the industry in the region is possible and necessary. We cannot allow the destruction of our industrial fabric and the urgent challenges that the environmental and social crisis we face remain unaddressed. in a fair manner that guarantees decent living conditions for the entire working class,” he concluded.
