A dead woman, two seriously injured men – this is the balance of the incredible bloody deed at the beginning of Holy Week in the district of Gänserndorf (Lower Austria). The crime scene is located in a community where crime history has been written multiple times…
The unassuming market town of Strasshof is less than half an hour’s drive northeast of Vienna, right on the Nordbahn. The city stretches for several kilometers along the national road B8. There are hairdressers, car dealerships, supermarkets, kindergartens and schools, even a massage parlor – basically everything the now 11,000 inhabitants need to live.
Next dark chapter
Since the 1930s, the deep red municipality has also experienced a steady population growth and even has a well-known attraction to offer with the large railway museum. To the left and right of the main road, residential areas characterize the cityscape. A community like many others, it probably won’t be enough to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Instead, Strasshof has long written domestic crime history — and added another dark chapter to it on Monday.
In the early hours of the morning, a 60-year-old panicked and alerted the police. Her son panicked, he attacked her and her husband with a knife. When a patrol arrived in Albert-Sever-Strasse a little later, Roswitha K. was already dead, her 70-year-old husband Anton – the two only took their vows in their second marriage a few years ago – was also in the terrace house with life-threatening injuries.
At the same time, the alleged perpetrator was found in the front yard. Martin S. (27) may have tried to self-convict after the crime against his mother and stepfather. He also suffered serious injuries when he fell from the skylight.
Victim and suspect out of danger
Although all help came too late for the woman, the two men were taken to hospital. You’re in intensive care. As the “Krone” learned, there is no longer a mortal danger. The state criminal investigation department could not provide information about the motive for the time being – only the questioning of the two seriously injured will shed light on the tragic case.
Once again a dark shadow fell over the community, again reporters flocked to Strasshof. “Maybe the place is cursed,” says a passer-by cynically at the local inspection “Krone”. For others, the shock is deeper: “You can’t and shouldn’t get used to it.”

Strasshof’s dramas
Caught for 3096 days – escape to the neighbor
In 1998, at the age of ten, Natascha Kampusch was kidnapped on her way to school in Vienna and held captive in the basement of a house in Strasshof. On August 23, 2006 – 3096 days after the kidnapping – she managed to escape to a neighbor who alerted the police. Kidnapper Wolfgang P. threw himself in front of a train and died.
Quadruple murder – rent dispute as trigger
Due to a rent dispute, a 66-year-old became a quadruple murderer in Strasshof in July 2008. The man coldly executed two siblings and their husbands with a gun. Then he hid in a campsite near the reservoir Ottenstein (Lower Austria). Police officers arrested him there 44 days after the massacre.
Matricide – corpse in bedding drawer
On September 1, 2014, a 22-year-old man stabbed his mother 36 times. After the bloody act, the student wrapped the body of 44-year-old Sabine W. in foil, hid it in a bedding drawer and fled by plane to the United States. Seven weeks later, he was tracked down and arrested in Oregon.
