Two cars collided with each other in Söll in the Tyrolean district of Kufstein on Friday afternoon, because the 85-year-old driver of a car tried to grab something to eat from the passenger seat. She ended up in the opposite lane.
The 85-year-old was driving on the B178 Loferer Straße in the municipality of Söll towards St. Johann shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday. She later told police she reached into the passenger seat to get something to eat. The Austrian woman ended up in the other lane, where a 65-year-old drove his car towards her. A collision occurred.
The man’s car spun, hit the guardrail and a traffic checkpoint before coming to a stop in the direction of travel. The senior’s car came to a stop in a field.
Driver taken to hospital
The 85-year-old was injured in the accident. The rescue took her to the hospital in Kufstein. The 65-year-old local man was unharmed. However, there was significant damage to his car and the woman’s car. After the accident, Loferer Straße was only accessible in two directions for about two hours.
