Nobody really wants to sit in a gondola when a wild storm is raging, like the storm front “Maya” has been doing since Sunday. The passengers of a gondola lift in Tyrol, ten minutes from Innsbruck, were lucky.
The last guest had just got out on Sunday night when it started and the gondolas started spinning wildly, as the video from one of our “Krone” reader-reporters shows.
“The storm was spinning our gondolas in the Schlick2000 while they were being parked,” said the Krone reader reporter, who sent us the video, making you really sick to watch.
“Extreme Caution”
“Fortunately, the last passenger had already left the train and the storm came as a surprise when we were already parking the gondolas. We did that with the utmost care and everything went well,” he said, clearly relieved that nothing happened.
hail and heavy rain
From Sunday to Monday, the storm “Maya” brought hail, heavy rain and wind gusts up to 140 kilometers per hour in Austria. Damage was caused in many states and the emergency services were put to the test.
They took on more than 1000 missions, about 800 of which were in Upper Austria alone. After “Maya” has left, summer temperatures are a long way off. The weather will remain changeable in the coming days.
