A 14-year-old boy raced through the pedestrian zone in Vienna-Favoriten late on Monday evening in his mother’s car. When the police tried to stop him, he stepped on the accelerator and drove towards the officers…
According to police spokesman Mattias Schuster, officers from the Favoriten city police command became aware of the young man in the car on Favoritenstrasse around 10:15 p.m. The 14-year-old, who was traveling as a passenger with an equally old friend, responded to police signals to stop by pressing the accelerator.
The passenger ran away
He ran toward the officers, who quickly fled to safety in their patrol cars. The youngster wanted to drive away at a speed of up to 100 km/h via Quellenstraße towards Absberggasse and in the vicinity of Gellertgasse and Puchsbaumgasse, against the one-way lane in Puchsbaumgasse. The boy from Romania had to stop because of an oncoming car. His friend jumped out of the car and initially ran away unrecognizable.
I wanted to get food from mom in the car
Meanwhile, a patrol car had blocked the return route. The 14-year-old reversed and drove a second time towards the police officers, who were able to get back to safety and eventually arrest the youngster.
The teenager was released and stated that he had simply taken the car keys. In addition to a ride with his partner, the boys were probably also hungry: they wanted to get something from a fast food chain.
