A motorist was seriously injured in a collision with a tram in Vienna-Donaustadt on Tuesday. As the state police headquarters reported on Wednesday, the accident occurred because the driver wanted to avoid a line of vehicles on Donaufelder Straße.
When he tried to turn around at a red light, he drove through a prohibited area and faced the incoming tram.

Despite the tram having applied emergency braking, the collision occurred. The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured, but his life was not in danger. His passenger was slightly injured. Both received emergency medical care from the Vienna Professional Rescue Service and were taken to a hospital. No one on the tram was injured in the accident.
