Another alarm about Jehovah’s Witnesses in Styria: On Friday morning a car exploded in Zettling, south of Graz. No one was injured, but it could be the next attack on the Styrian religious community.
In the early morning hours, the residents of Zettling were woken from their sleep. There was a loud bang and suddenly a car was on fire. “Some kind of explosion on the vehicle may have caused the small car and an adjacent Thujen hedge to catch fire,” Styrian police said.
Memories of attacks return
However, the thuja hedge in question probably does not belong to just any house. According to reports, members of Jehovah’s Witnesses live in this house. According to the current state of the investigation, the police can neither confirm nor refute this. But horror memories are returning to the religious community: it was only at the end of March that a functioning explosive device was found in front of the Kingdom Hall in Kalsdorf, and last year several bombs exploded in Leibnitz.
Fortunately, this time no one was injured. About 15 firefighters from the Zettling fire brigade were able to quickly bring the fire under control. However, the car in the home’s gravel driveway was a total loss with an unknown amount of damage. The investigation into the cause of the fire and possible perpetrators is now in full swing again.
