Hand grenade suspected – dog toys cause total lockdown in Villach

Date:

An initially unknown object caused a total closure in the St. Martin district of Villach on Sunday morning. But experts quickly provided clarity.

An unknown plastic object was found at the entrance of a house on Mühlenweg, officials say. Because no one knew what the object was, the police were immediately alerted. They then completely cordoned off the area and called explosives experts.

“We are waiting to hear what the competent authority says,” the police station said. A short time later the all-clear was given. The item turned out to be a rubber dog toy. “It looked like a hand grenade,” police said.

Only on Saturday afternoon was there a large contingent of emergency services in Klagenfurt because, as reported, young people had found war relics along the Glan cycle path.
