Protection money extorted – The Bubi gang was organized like the mafia

Date:

Ten gang members must appear in court in Vienna. The indictment provides insight into the professionally organized structures.

In Vienna-Meidling – around Steinbauer Park, the gang’s base – they are said to have spread fear and terror. And then offered the victims security in exchange for monetary payments.

“They wanted to ‘make money’ and ‘be cool like a gangster’ and brag about the attacks,” the Viennese prosecutor’s office wrote in its 133-page indictment. This provides precise insights into the highly professional structures of the gang, led by an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old. They were called ‘the greats’ by those of lower rank. However, the gang members could be arrested beforehand.

It seems to have been clear to them that they would end up in court for this, as was the case in Vienna on May 17: “We will get life in prison anyway after these fireworks,” writes a gang leader.

Due to the age of the suspects this is not possible, but long prison sentences are…
