They received a meager wage, but a hefty fine. Two burglars who were recruited to break into the Romantikhotel Guglwald disappear behind bars for a long time. Because they handed out heavy punishments. And they were targeted by investigators because of ‘bad luck’ – they forgot a balaclava.
“We have to go on a trip,” said the 31-year-old Slovak, who, together with his Czech friend (32), had to answer to the court in Linz for the theft of a safe weighing 205 kilograms from the well-known Romantic Hotel Guglwald in Vorderweißenbach. The unemployed and friends with debts received gloves and balaclavas for the trip, which was ‘organized’ by two other Czechs who had since been arrested.
Found in prison
And such a mask was left at the crime scene and DNA traces on it led to the 31-year-old, who had a criminal record in the Czech Republic – who is currently serving a prison sentence there for driving without a license and has admitted everything.
Meager pay, heavy punishment
Of the more than 50,000 euros in loot, the two accused accomplices each received 430 euros. According to the second defendant, further burglaries were planned;
Both defendants received additional sentences in addition to their convictions in the Czech Republic. The 31-year-old was given a 10-month unconditional prison sentence and the 32-year-old, who had a previous conviction, was given an 18-month unconditional prison sentence. “This is criminal tourism and not a minor burglary,” the judge said in justifying the verdict.
