A downpour late Monday afternoon caused a number of floods in the federal capital: Praterstern, a metro station and the Millennium City were literally underwater, according to initial information.
Heavy rain caused extensive damage in Vienna, among other places, on Monday. About 30 liters per square meter fell on the Hohe Warte in Döbling, Ubimet meteorologist Michele Salmi tells ‘Krone’.
In the Donaufeld, towards Stammersdorf, it was probably around 26 liters. Weak wind gusts – the wind peaks in the city reached a maximum of 60 km/h – prevented damage, but the heavy rainfall still caused some flooding.
Millennium City and Praterstern
It turned out that there was a leak in the roof of the Millennium City shopping center, causing enormous amounts of water to flow into the shopping center.
In the Dresdner Straße metro station even a staircase had to be closed because water had leaked in, as Wiener Linien confirmed in response to questions from “Krone”. However, the station was still usable and activities were not limited.
A similar picture emerged at the Praterstern. A number of areas have also been flooded by the rain. A “Krone” editor also got a little wet – but captured the event for readers!
