Fallen trees, floods, mudslides: numerous fire brigades in Upper Austria worked until midnight to clean up the damage caused by the evening storm front.
Around 7 p.m. a thunderstorm with heavy rain and showers passed over Upper Austria. Wind speeds of 102 km/h were briefly measured in Kremsmünster, 91 km/h in Braunau am Inn and 88 km/h in Wolfsegg am Hausruck.
20 firefighting operations
In Bad Hall and Kematen/Krems buildings were flooded and in Ranshofen a roof was in danger of being blown off. There was a small mudslide in Niederneukirchen and the storm blew down a tree in Perg. In total, the Florianis were deployed about twenty times.
The maypole was in danger of falling
The maypole in Wels Vogelweide was dangerously crooked due to the strong wind. It had to be assembled and secured by the fire brigade using a crane.
