Unfulfilled love sometimes ends dramatically, and not only in the film: a Tyrolean local politician (48) allegedly took a hammer one evening in August 2023 and smashed the front and rear windows of his ex-girlfriend’s car. Now the man was before the judge.
Was the 48-year-old really the one who struck out of anger or jealousy? Regardless, he vehemently denied the crime. “She was jealous and the relationship developed in a toxic direction,” the defendant explained before the Innsbruck Regional Court. The ex also sent him a cryptic message with a photo of the broken windows and said he had now received them “from his fornication”.
Acquittal in case of doubt
The man’s lawyer ultimately outlined two variants: either it was actually his client who was under the influence of pills that day, or the woman herself had smashed the windows to frame her ex. Judge Paul Menardi ultimately justified the acquittal due to doubts about who the perpetrator really was. That cannot be said “with absolute certainty”.
