The Federal Ministry of Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology has requested a procedure to determine the environmental compatibility of the planned “Kahlenberg cable car”. The research conducted has now shown that no environmental impact assessment needs to be carried out.
After thorough investigation by the authorities, it has now been determined that, on the one hand, no environmental impact assessment is required for the possible cable car to the Kahlenberg, nor for the planned park-and-ride facility. This is because certain criteria from the EIA Act were not met or were not applied.
No final approval
However, this decision does not mean final approval of the project. This is simply a determination of the authority’s responsibility in accordance with the current legal framework. The final decision on the realization of the cable car depends on further approval procedures, for example in the areas of forestry law, railway law, water law and nature conservation law.
