Four days, three stages and lots of fun – more than 200,000 music fans will soon declare the Pannonia Fields II in Nickelsdorf their holy ground. The iconic festival shakes the earth with an extensive program. The preparations are in full swing.
From June 13 to 16, Nickelsdorf will once again become a paradise for tens of thousands of pilgrims and friends of loud (guitar) sounds. Organizer Ewald Tatar gives them a concentrated charge of power for four days of Nova Rock. As he “prophesied”, Green Day, Måneskin, Bring Me The Horizon and Avenged Sevenfold are the headliners of the program. Rock legend Alice Cooper also swirls across the stage, while Avril Lavigne and Sum 41 are also in the spotlight.
Stage act instead of Hollywood action
Screen star Keanu Reeves brings a touch of Hollywood, but he will exude the alternative rock charm of his band Dogstar. Anyone who knows him knows exactly that the action hero has no charisma or grace and prefers to surf through life on exciting sound waves like in the cult film ‘Dangerous Surf’, or the real ‘Matrix’. “Nova Rock is an honor,” said the versatile artist.
“Everything has been thought of”
The Barracuda Music team around Ewald Tatar is well rehearsed and is breathing new life into the mega festival for the 18th time. “Nova Rock has an appeal far beyond the borders of the country, it has long broken all records,” said Governor Hans Peter Doskozil, who appreciated the spectacular event. “We will ensure that everything runs smoothly,” promises district governor Ulrike Zschech.
Large contingent of emergency services
There will be 250 police officers present. In addition, 120 paramedics, eight emergency physicians and twelve Red Cross employees are present 24 hours a day. The fire brigade is represented by an on-call service of up to 200 people. More than 550 stewards ensure a successful event on behalf of the organizer. “In order to be able to manage more than 10,500 cars, 4,500 caravans, shuttle services and taxi traffic in an orderly manner, 360 additional traffic signs will be installed,” Zschech announces.
More performances for a young audience
In addition to Nova Rock, Barracuda Music will be increasingly involved with Mörbisch in the future. “To open up the multi-stage more to a young audience,” Doskozil explains. As part of the new collaboration, Zucchero will be seen live there for the first time on July 15. “This premiere is the beginning of what will initially be a three-year partnership,” says Doskozil. The concert with Zucchero is already sold out, but there are still tickets available for the next Mörbisch highlight, James Blunt on July 30. Tagträumer, a band with participation from Burgenland-Styria, is on stage as support act. “A promising start,” said Doskozil.
Hoping for nice weather
The sad news for hardcore fans at the end: Nova Rock will take place on stage in Nickelsdorf for only three days in the future, as Ewald Tatar announced. But that doesn’t dampen the festival atmosphere. Barracuda Music can only hope that the weather changes. Dark storm clouds like the one at award-winning chef Max Stiegl’s press conference Wednesday in Gut Purbach can disappear all the way to the Nova Rock above the Pannonia Fields II.
“Probably so,” Ewald Tatar notes confidently. The statistics prove him right: “Although Nova Rock and rain simply go together for many fans, the fact is that 70 percent of all festival days were dry and dusty.”
