A girl suffered serious head injuries in the Tiefenbach gorge in Kramsach (Tyrolean district of Kufstein). The pilot of the rescue helicopter “Heli 4” performed millimeter work during the rescue with a rope 80 meters long.
The storm and heavy rainfall over the weekend were likely the trigger for a rockfall that occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon in the Tiefenbachklamm gorge in Kramsach.
Blessing in disguise
A 13-year-old holiday girl from Bavaria was struck in the back of the head by a fist-sized rock and seriously injured. “The 13-year-old suffered a laceration and injuries to her arm and hand,” said Christoph Silberberger, chief of the Alpine Police in the Kufstein district. The girl was traveling in the canyon with six adults and four children. At the time of the accident, it was on a viewing platform under an overhanging rock.
Heli lets rope into the canyon
The supervisors immediately gave first aid and made an emergency call. The pilot of Heli 4 excelled during the rescue: with an 80-meter rope, he pulled the 13-year-old out of the narrow gorge in collaboration with the Kramsach mountain rescue service. She was flown to Kufstein Hospital.
