Linzerin duped – Hundreds of complaints about fake police officers

The real driver urgently warns: At the moment, criminals are increasingly trying to defraud victims of their money using the so-called police trick. The perpetrators call seniors and pretend to be detectives. So far, 100 ads have been posted in just three days. A woman from Linz (76) handed over her savings to the fraudsters – it amounted to 8,000 euros.

There are currently more and more fraud attempts in which criminals use the so-called police trick to defraud citizens of their money. The perpetrators, often older people, call and pretend to be detectives. They claim there is a gang of burglars active in the area who could strike next.

To keep all valuables safe, they must be given to the “police” for safekeeping. A transfer call is organized and handled by the caller or by an accomplice.

One such attempt was successful on the evening of January 10. A 76-year-old woman from Linz handed over her savings to the fraudsters in her apartment around 8:45 p.m.
