A participant in a hunger strike over climate change collapsed in Berlin on Wednesday. The activist was taken to a hospital, his supporters said. They called the ambulance.
The young man, Tin, had not eaten solid food for sixteen days. Nothing more is known about his health at this time. On March 7, activist Wolfgang Metzeler-Kick initially started the hunger strike alone (see video above). According to his own statements, he has not eaten solid food for more than 69 days, only juices, electrolytes and vitamins. Since then, Metzeler-Kick has lost more than ten kilos of body weight and his health and that of his colleagues are regularly monitored.

Four other men have joined the hunger strike since March, including the now-collapsed activist Tin on April 30. According to the daily Taz, more than thirty people have given up two days’ worth of food each to support the activists. They include members of the group ‘Scientist Rebellion’ and other climate activist organizations.
Hand over claims to Scholz
The activists live in a camp near the German Ministry of Economic Affairs. They hold press conferences, talk to passers-by and hold a daily protest march through the government district. The aim is to convince Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to make a government statement that risks climate catastrophe.
On March 7, demands were transferred to the Federal Chancellery, including a “radical reversal” of humanity and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Scholz would not elaborate, but according to a report from the agency, he is “concerned when people go on hunger strike.”
