Opening on Friday – winter closure ends: free travel on Hahntennjoch!

Date:

After weeks of clearing snow and rocks, the winter closure on the Hahntennjoch can be lifted. The spectacular pass road that connects the Tyrolean districts of Imst and Reutte will be opened to traffic on Friday afternoon. In the end it took about 1,500 hours of work.

15 workers, two excavators, two wheel loaders, a sweeper and a truck have worked a total of around 1,500 hours over the past two months to make the L246 Hahntennjochstrasse safely passable again after the winter.

The pass road between the Inn Valley and the Lechtal will be open to traffic again from Friday at noon.

A challenge year after year
Only if the avalanche committee gives the green light can work start each spring. “As in previous years, we started the felling work and removing the damaged wood in the lower parts of the road in March,” says Hartmut Neurauter from the Zams road maintenance department responsible.

Snow and rock clearing work was then gradually carried out along the road. “The large avalanche channels sometimes contain up to seven meters of snow, which must be removed with the monoblock cutter,” Neurauter explains.

“Important transport link”
Road construction engineer LHStv. Josef Geisler (ÖVP) thanked everyone involved: “The pass road over the Hahntennjoch is an important transport connection between the Lechtal and the Inntal. Every year we work hard to be able to drive safely again as quickly as possible after the winter closure.”
