The images were shown during a court hearing. The video shows Sydney Thomas being struck by an oncoming pickup truck on the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge and losing control of her heavy-duty truck. Her vehicle then crashed through the railing, leaving the cabin hanging precariously over the Ohio River.
Trailer wedged in the bridge
The video shows the driver being thrown into the vehicle after the collision and screaming in panic. Fortunately, the truck’s trailer was wedged into the bridge structure, preventing it from falling. Thomas dangled above the river and had to wait 40 minutes before emergency services could rescue her.
The other person involved in the crash — a 33-year-old who was driving at an excessive speed — “came through traffic,” police reported. He collided with several vehicles. Prosecutors have charged him with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. He also did not have a valid driver’s license. The bridge was closed for over a month after the incident.
